Back in the Saddle Again — Sort of

January 28th, 2007 · No Comments

Dave and I went for a short but hilly ride today, from our house to & around the PV golf course and back. Tired, grumpy, and just wanting to get home as directly as I could, I foolishly decided to brave 190th Street, rather than snake around through some other streets to find a [...]

Wavy

January 27th, 2007 · 2 Comments

I’ve been working on a scarf for my friend Jan with the blue Malabrigo I got at Wool & Co — it’s the Wavy scarf from Knitty.

It’s coming along okay except for when I got cocky and decided to ignore the suggestion to use a row counter, and just kept trying to refer back to [...]

Green?

Things in our house that are environmentally good choices:

Compact fluorescent bulbs 90%
One TV
~930 sq feet for the two of us
Recent furniture purchases: antiques from Craig’s List (bookcase, dining table, chairs, antique stove, Hoosier cabinet), garage sale (small wooden desk that’s on our front porch), local antique store (bookcase).
Used our old linens til tearing, replaced w/ [...]

Not surprised, just disappointed….

…in the news I got from Richard regarding the Mills Act.
Apparently the City Council is dead set against the whole idea of the Mills Act. They don’t want to lose any tax revenues, and fear that, once one house gets ok’d, EVERYONE is going to take advantage of the Mills Act and the city will [...]

Mills Act

January 22nd, 2007 · No Comments

Last week I contacted Richard from the City of Hermosa Beach regarding the Mills Act.
The Mills Act (related info here, here, and here) is a piece of legislature designed to promote the preservation of historical buildings/architecture including homes. Homeowners enter into a 10 year contract that dictates the house must not have anything [...]

Carlsbad Half

January 22nd, 2007 · No Comments

Good news: I PR’d.
Bad news: My achilles tendon (left) and knees (especially right) slowed me down to a walk the last couple miles. Today, my achilles tendons (yes, both) are twinging only a little (but I’ve not tried to do anything more than walk). Curiously (because it didn’t hurt during the run), [...]

Musing on the Tattoos

January 19th, 2007 · No Comments

Very few people really know who I am in LA Tri Club.
I mean, I’m fairly friendly, I always chat with people I’ve seen before, cheer on others in the uniform (Go LA!), help out/volunteer occasionally, etc.
I’ve won some pretty cool stuff (carbon fiber clip on aerobars! $250 ‘race rewards’ check just for finishing races as [...]

Excuse for not swimming!

January 16th, 2007 · No Comments

This time it’s on my upper left arm. Pat Fish of Lucky Fish designed and inked it. Isn’t it gorgeous??? I love my kitties but this puts them to shame almost.
No swimming til it’s healed — not that I’ve been swimming anyway.
Feb 12th I’m getting the color done on it, so basically, [...]

Training plans

January 9th, 2007 · No Comments

I’m trying to figure out a training plan for the year. Has anyone used Friel’s book and wants to comment? I want to be a little more focused, less haphazard. I found the training schedule templates online here (thanks! saved me from writing them up myself).
I’d rather learn how to do [...]
